A solar street light is a self-contained power system on a pole. It generates, stores and uses its own energy every 24 hours, independent of the grid — which is why it keeps working through load shedding and where no grid supply exists.
Daytime
Sunlight on the panel produces DC power. The charge controller regulates it and charges the lithium battery while the light stays off.
Dusk
When panel voltage falls at sunset, the controller detects darkness and switches the LED light on — no grid connection or timer wiring needed.
Night
The battery supplies the LED through the night. Programmed dimming — or motion-based brightness where specified — reduces energy use during low-traffic hours.
Dawn
At sunrise the controller turns the light off and the charging cycle begins again. Battery reserve is sized to carry the light through cloudy days.

The battery determines whether a solar street light still works after several years and through a run of cloudy days. As a lithium battery engineering company, AmpereX selects the chemistry, capacity and protection for each project, and integrates the battery with the solar panel and charge controller.
Solar street lighting can be added to infrastructure that already exists or built from the ground up. The choice is made per site after assessing the poles, layout and lighting requirement.
There is no single correct solar street light specification. Each system is engineered from the factors below. The basic chain is: LED power × lighting hours gives nightly energy use; backup days and depth-of-discharge set battery capacity; and local sun hours set the panel wattage needed to recharge it.

Solar street lighting suits public and private infrastructure, and is especially useful where grid-fed lighting is interrupted by load shedding or where running cables between poles is costly.

A complete system includes the solar panel, LED street light, lithium or LiFePO4 battery, battery enclosure, solar charge controller, wiring and protection, mounting hardware and, where needed, the street-light pole and installation. AmpereX can supply the full system or the specific parts a project requires.
During the day the solar panel charges the battery through a charge controller. At dusk the controller detects falling panel voltage and switches the LED on; the battery powers it through the night, often with a dimming schedule, and the light switches off at dawn when charging resumes.
Yes, where technically suitable. Existing poles are assessed for structural condition, height, spacing and space to mount the panel and battery enclosure. Where poles are unsuitable, or none exist, new poles are designed and installed as part of the project.
Street-light batteries are cycled every night. Lithium, and LiFePO4 where appropriate, offers long cycle life, stable voltage and more usable capacity than lead-acid, which suits daily solar charging and discharging.
Sizing starts from LED power and lighting hours to find nightly energy use, then accounts for local solar conditions, battery depth-of-discharge, temperature, the number of backup days required, pole configuration and site conditions. Each project is engineered individually rather than using one fixed specification.
Yes. Housing societies such as DHA, Lake City, Bahria Town and other residential developments use solar street lighting for boulevards, internal streets, parks and gates, keeping lights on during grid outages without underground cabling between poles.
