Backup for 500W Load

Size lithium UPS or inverter backup for a ~500 watt essential load — the most common Pakistani “lounge + kitchen” package during 2–6 hour load shedding.

  • Typical: 2 fans + fridge + TV + lights + router ≈ 500 W
  • 4-hour outage → about 2.3 kWh needed (with safety margin)
  • Usually 12V 200Ah LiFePO4 or 24V 100Ah class bank

What does a 500W backup load mean?

Who this guide is for
  • Families keeping fans, fridge, and TV on during evening load shedding
  • Homes with 1–1.5 kW inverter/UPS (not running 1 ton AC on this bank)
  • Upgrading from tubular 150Ah to lithium for daily cycling
Quick sizing (4 hours @ ~505 W)

Energy: ~2,320 Wh (505 W × 4 h + 15% inverter margin)

12V bank: 12V 200–220 Ah LiFePO4 (or 2 × 100Ah parallel)

24V bank: 24V 100–110 Ah if your inverter is 24V class

Inverter: 1,000–1,200 VA pure/modified sine (40% headroom over 505 W)

Common Pakistani setups

Full essentials (~505 W)

~505 W · 4 h backup

Fans, single-door fridge, TV, lights, router — matches most Lahore/Islamabad evening outages.

No fridge (~355 W)

~355 W · 4 h backup

Fans, TV, lights, router only — lower Ah if you keep the fridge on grid.

6-hour load shedding (~505 W)

~505 W · 6 h backup

Same appliances with longer backup window — common in summer schedules.

Common mistakes at 500W

  • Adding a 1 ton AC to a 500 W plan — AC needs a separate 48V/kWh-scale bank (see our 1 ton AC guide).
  • Sizing tubular at 100% depth — plan for 50% DoD on lead-acid vs 85% on LiFePO4.
  • Ignoring startup surge on fridge — inverter must handle brief compressor draw above average watts.
  • Undersizing cable on 12V at 200Ah — use proper gauge from inverter manual.
